You guard in complete peace the one whose mind leans on You because he trusts in You - Isaiah 26:3
From The Artist
I used to think peace was simply the absence of problems. But who has a life like that, particularly in 2020? How do we maintain mental and emotional equilibrium when things happen way beyond our control? How can we be “guarded” by this complete peace written about 2600 years ago?
You may be familiar with the word ‘shalom’ — the modern Hebrew greeting for hello, goodbye, and peace. However, the Biblical Hebrew text reads “shalom shalom”. This “double shalom” is much more multifaceted. It also means wholeness, completeness, wellbeing, safety, health, prosperity, tranquility, and contentment. We’re talking about the ultimate in wellness!
Complete peace requires a paradigm shift — from leaning on something fallible for our stress to instead leaning our thinking on the One who knows the end from the beginning, who knows what you’re going through, and who truly cares. It’s trusting His love for and faithfulness to you.
About The Piece
The multifaceted “peace” in the ancient text is expressed through collage. Deliberately torn and layered art papers in calming colors create a tranquil depth and rich texture, overlaid by the large, hand-calligraphed Hebrew “shalom”. To calligraph the Isaiah text, I mixed specialty inks to achieve a rich aqua — a color I adore — one that is relaxing, reflective of the peacefulness of calm tropical waters.
